KISII, Kenya Jan 8 – Conjoined twins who were born at Lenmek Hospital in Kisii County in 2021 have died at the Kenyatta National Hospital while undergoing treatment.
The twins who were joined at the chest down to their abdomen were placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Mary Moraa, 21, their mother who hails from Itumbe, Bobasi constituency told Capital News that her daughters died on December 23, 2022.
She is now appealing for financial help to offset the hospital bill estimated at Sh3 million.
“For the past year three weeks, I was staying in the hospital ward with my babies. The babies left a huge bill which I am unable to raise, am calling for well-wishers to help me raise funds,” said Moraa,” said Moraa.

The babies were born through the caesarian section after she developed birth complications.
At KNH, Moraa said the doctors told her to wait for the babies to grow in order for them to be separated.
She noted the doctors told her the babies were sharing a heart and they depended on each other to survive.
“One baby had a bigger heart while the other one had a small one, the one with a small heart depended on her twin sister for all heart functions,” she said.

She revealed that the baby with a bigger heart developed pneumonia and she was under treatment, this persisted and she later developed difficulties in breathing.
This is when they were rushed to the hospital ICU on December 22, 2023 night and both died a day later.
According to Moraa, her spouse who used to visit vanished and switched off all his phones and her family also went silent and have been unsupportive.
